Run a prize draw on Instagram
Running a competition on social media is a brilliant way to promote your business or product.
You may have seen that competitions are becoming more and more popular on Instagram, with many businesses doing prize draw giveaways. Here are some of the benefits of using a prize draw as a marketing tool:
- You can quickly increase the reach of your account and grow your followers
You can target your specific audience by collaborating with other like-minded businesses
It only costs the price of the product or service you’re giving away
The rules around a competition on Instagram can be confusing, so here’s a checklist to help get you started:
Choose the prize! This is normally a popular product or service you can offer.
Decide if you want to collaborate with another like-minded influencer or business. This could be someone with an Instagram account who has similar interests and a good number of engaged followers. Ask them to run the competition from their account so it reaches their followers too.
Consider the best way to encourage entries to the prize draw. The simpler, the better! I’d recommend asking people the following to qualify for an entry:
To like the post promoting the giveaway
To follow you. If you're using an influencer, ask them to follow you both
To tag a friend in the comments of the post (one entry per tag)
To share on stories for extra entries into the prize draw
Create an image for your post that highlights it’s a giveaway.
Write the text for your post, including how to enter and any T&Cs. I would suggest using my template below as a start.
Post your image and text, choosing a popular time for your followers. Promote and link to the competition from your other social media channels.
Once your giveaway is over, randomly draw a winner and announce it on Instagram. Done!
Template for your Instagram giveaway:
To enter, follow X and tag as many friends as you like below - one tag per comment. Each tag counts as one entry to the prize draw. Share on stories for an extra X entries (and tag me so I can see it!).
Giveaway will run until X date/time. The winner will be announced on X date/time. It is open to X country/worldwide.
The winner will be chosen at random and the giveaway is in no way endorsed by Instagram.
Once you’re feeling more confident running a giveaway on Instagram, you can consider getting together with a group of other like-minded businesses and doing a joint competition. This can help to grow your reach even further.
